The Albemarle-based Rutherford Institute and the Virginia ACLU are reacting to a U.S. Supreme Court decision on GPS devices.   The high court ruled law enforcement agencies must obtain a warrant before they use a GPS device to track the cars of a U.S. citizen.  John Whitehead of the Rutherford Institute is glad the Supreme Court ruled the way it did.

The Virginia ACLU is monitoring the General Assembly on this issue.   Lawmakers are considering a bill that would prevent private parties from placing a GPS device on a vehicle.  But the measure gives police the power to do so.  The ACLU contends that would be unconstitutional.  Whitehead was a Tuesday guest on Charlottesville...Right Now with Coy Barefoot.
