Glendale Woman Threatened with Jail If She Continues to Operate Food Bank

GLENDALE, AZ - A Glendale woman said the city is threatening to send her to jail if she continues to operate a food bank in her front yard.

Every day for the past seven years, Ramirez has been giving away free food that she gets from companies to people in need.

"I believe in God and Christ teaches us to give back to our neighbors and that's what I want to do," said Ramirez.

The city said they've received complaints about the food bank and have not given her final notice. According to the city, if she continues to operate, she could be fined or even arrested.

The Rutherford Institute is now involved in defending Ramirez. They sent the City of Glendale a notice that they are violating several constitutional rights and Arizona laws by asking her to stop passing out free food.

The city met with Ramirez and gave her information about food banks in the area. Ramirez said she wants to continue to give out food because she wants to help her neighbors and her community.
