Arizona Supreme Court Denies Writ of Habeas Corpus in Case of Jailed Pastor

Today, the Arizona Supreme Court has denied a Writ of Habeas Corpus filed by the Rutherford Institute last week.
In the ongoing case of Michael Salman, a pastor jailed for home bible studies the state Supreme Court denied the petition filed by Salman’s attorney’s at the Rutherford Institute. Salman is currently serving 60 days at the Maricopa County Jail also known as Tent City. He faces a longer jail term as the prosecution moves forward in its case.
John Whitehead of the Rutherford Institute made the following statement after the Supreme Court’s decision;
Since the time of this nation’s birth, the right of habeas corpus has been the basis of American freedoms. Each day of Michael Salman’s imprisonment is one more day in which the civil liberties of all Americans are being trampled by overzealous government agents. However, we are resolved to continue to challenge his detention in and out of the courts.
Institute attorneys remain undeterred and will continue their legal efforts to challenge Salman’s detention at Tent City and the violation of his First Amendment rights.
