Christian Theologian David Ray Griffin Explains Why He Believes U.S. Government Orchestrated 9/11 in OldSpeak Interview

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - In an interview with OldSpeak, the online journal of The Rutherford Institute, Christian theologian David Ray Griffin speaks frankly about Christianity's beginnings as an anti-imperialist movement ("We began as an anti-imperial religion, so that to follow Jesus is to be anti-empire."), his perceptions of the American Empire's quest for power ("Today, more and more people are saying that America is the new Rome.") and his explanation of why he believes that the United States government orchestrated the events of 9/11 ("I don't have a theory about what exactly happened. What I do present is an enormous amount of evidence that the official story is false.").

As Griffin explained in the interview with John W. Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute, "When I came to the conclusion that the Bush-Cheney administration had orchestrated 9/11 in order to promote this empire under the pretext of the so-called war on terror, I decided that I needed to say so by means of summarizing the evidence for this conclusion."

Griffin, a Professor of Philosophy of Religion and Theology, Emeritus, at Claremont School of Theology and Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, Calif., is also co-director of the Center for Process Studies. The author and editor of more than 30 books and 175 essays, Griffin also served for 17 years as the editor of the SUNY Series in Constructive Postmodern Thought. Although he primarily writes about the philosophy of religion, theology and philosophy of science, he has also put out six books about 9/11 and American imperialism, including Christian Faith and the Truth about 9/11: A Call to Reflection and Action (2006); and Debunking 9/11 Debunking: An Answer to Popular Mechanics and Other Defenders of the Official Conspiracy Theory, which is slated for release in March 2007.

OldSpeak, the online journal of The Rutherford Institute, is dedicated to publishing interviews, articles and commentary on subjects often overlooked by the mainstream media in the areas of politics, art, culture, law and religion.
