As part of the 2011 Virginia Festival of the Book, John W. Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute and author of The Freedom Wars, led a discussion with David Swanson, author of War Is a Lie and Daybreak: Undoing the Imperial Presidency, and Bruce Fein, author of The American Empire, Before the Fall, about the rise of the imperial presidency, the expanding US military empire, the rise of the surveillance state, and their implications for the civil liberties and freedoms of American citizens.
The panel, "The Rise of the Imperial Presidency," took place on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at 12 pm, EST, in the Charlottesville City Council Chambers, located at 605 E Main Street.
John W. Whitehead, author of The Freedom Wars, is a constitutional attorney and president of the Rutherford Institute. Bruce Fein, author of American Empire and Constitutional Peril, served as Associate Deputy, Attorney General, General Counsel for Federal Communications Commission, and Research Director of the Joint Congressional Committee on Covert Arms Sales to Iran.
